Chesterfield County is located just south of Richmond. On May 25, 1749, the Virginia House of Burgesses separated Chesterfield from Henrico and created the new county. The legislature named the county for the former British Secretary of State, Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield. Lord Chesterfield was famous for his “good manners and writings”. So, one of his most frequently used sayings was, “An injury is much sooner forgotten than an insult.”
The photo above is an example of a walkout basement that has been transformed into a beautiful living area. The focal point of the basement is a natural, stacked stone, gas fireplace perfect for winter nights. Accent walls of shiplap create a cozy atmosphere. This touch of farmhouse styling complements the stone. A wall of folding glass exterior doors allows light to flood into what could be a dark space. The doors also allow homeowners to enjoy beautiful views and easy access to their backyard.
